2008 PYLA Coaching

Many of our coaches will be returning for the 2008 PYLA Season. Our coaching staff is comprised of top area college coaches, professional players, top high school coaches and current/former college All Americans. Below is a list of the coaches and their accolades from the 2007 Season.

  • Joe Karpinski – Joe is an Asst. Coach at Ursinus College. He grew up in upstate New York and played Long Stick Midfield & Close Defense at University of New Haven.
  • Ryan Cranston – Ryan currently plays attack and midfield at Lynchburg College. He was named All Conference in 2005 and All American in 2006 and 2007. He attended West Chester Henderson High School.
  • Matt Mulqueen – Matt graduates from Penn State University in the spring of 2007. Matt was a three year letterman and was named to Academic All-Big Ten team in 2006. Matt has been selected to play in the North South game this year. Matt attended Bishop Shanahan where he lettered all four years and captain his junior and senior year.
  • Mike Friel – Current Head Coach at Springfield High School. Mike played at Ridley High School and Cabrini College where is still the all time assists record holder and third overall in points.
  • Drew Adams – Drew currently plays at Penn State University where as a freshmen & sophomore he was named ECAC Player of the Year and All American. Drew attended Springfield High School where he also was named All American his senior year.
  • Jason Orlando - Former Springfield standout and All Conference player. Current Ursinus standout.
  • Brock Riffel – Brock graduated from Drexel University where he was a offensive standout for the Dragons. He graduated from Sweet Home High School in Amherst NY where in 3 years he scored 168 goals and was selected as All American his senior year.
  • Rick Smith – Asst. Varsity coach Hatboro Horsham High School. Wissahickon High School Grad 2001 1st team all league defense.
  • Ray Kendrick - Ray is currently is coaching at Hatboro-Horsham High School. Ray was also a standout player at Ridley High School.
  • Justin Blye – Four year starter for Downingtown East and selected All Suburban League three times. Future University of Maryland midfielder.
  • Brian Dougherty – Brian is currently an Asst. Coach at Haverford College. Brian attended University of Maryland where he was a two-time All American goalie. He is also currently President of the Brian Dougherty Goalie School. In Brian’s spare time he tends goal for the Philadelphia Barrage.
  • Ryan Phillips – Current Midfielder on the two time National Champions Salisbury University. Two time all league midfielder at Downingtown East. Captain both his junior and senior years at Downingtown East.
  • Tony Verna – Current Head Coach at Great Valley High School and Former St. Joseph’s University standout at midfield. Tony graduated from Ridley High School where he was a four year starter.
  • Dan Saltsman – Former Penn State captain & defensemen graduated 2007. Two-time first team All ECAC. Two-time PSU Defender of the Year. Preseason Honorable All American pick. All American from Concord High School in New Hampshire where Dan was also four time All State selection.
  • Ken Clausen - Ken attends University of Virginia where he started every game at defense as a freshmen. Ken graduated from the Hill School where he was the No. 1 rated defensemen in the country and named All American in 2006.
  • Kevin Keenan – Graduated from Penn State University where he is second on the All Time Save list. Kevin was also elected team MVP three times and was captain his senior year. Kevin played his high school career at Springfield HS where he was named All State his junior and senior year.
  • Ryan Morrell - Ryan is a freshmen at Princeton University where he plays attack. Ryan graduated from The Tatnall School where he lettered all four years. He was All Conference, All State and All American his senior year
  • Greg Harrington – Greg is a freshman at John Hopkins University where he plays Long Stick Midfield. Greg graduated from the Hill School where is lettered for three years.
